Personal Biography Statement

Shaun T. Schafer, Ph.D., is an associate professor in journalism and associate chair of the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication. He previously worked as a reporter and editor in Chicago; San Francisco; Kansas City, Mo.; Fort Smith, Ark.; Tulsa, Okla.; Brisbane, Australia and Sydney, Australia. He previously taught journalism at Oklahoma State University before joining Metro State as an affiliate faculty member in 2006.

Current Projects

Along with Kenn Bisio I am working on two journalism projects. One examines the treatment of photography in current news design. The other is looking at changes in the teaching of journalism.

In addition, I am working with Sanjay Arwade, Ben Schafer and Delbert Schafer on a Structural Art project for structural engineers.

Teaching Philosophy

We learn from texts, we learn from instructors and we learn from our peers.

What that means for students is you need to come to class prepared and ready to engage.
